When you've had a problem with a service, business or with the way something is run in the city, it can be difficult to know who to turn to. This is especially true if you've just moved to a new city. One of the places where you should always remember that you could go is to a representative of the city council. Their job description is to speak for the people of the city and to institute change when it's needed. If you believe that some of the city's industrial valves are unsafe and need to be replaced or are concerned that there are not enough school buses serving your child's school, there is someone on the council who would be happy to listen to your concerns.

The Lafayette City Council is made up of five representatives. They are the mayor, vice mayor and three council members. If you wish to get in contact with the council, there are a few ways of doing that. You could phone the city clerk's office and discuss your concern about radiation shields or you could write a formal letter. There is also the option of attending one of the city council's meetings. These take place on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 7:00pm in the Lafayette Library and Learning Center.

The city council, on top of helping out local citizens with their concerns, sets out several goals for themselves throughout the year. Some of these for the past year included fixing damaged roads throughout the city, completing the senior's needs assessment, and planning for more open space throughout the downtown area. If you believe that the council should concentrate on something like the city's sewage disposal methods, it would be a good idea to get some support from other residents of the city and ask that this be added to the 2010 agenda.

While the city council can be a very useful source for anyone living in the city, there are other places that one might go for help. If you were previously running a veterinarian clinic London Ontario before moving to Lafayette, the city business office can help you find out how to open a similar practice here. There are also many divisions of the city, from parks and recreation to engineering, all with representatives ready to serve you. If you're a Hamilton Ontario lawyer who has recently moved here or a lifelong resident, you are important to this community. Don't keep your city concerns all to yourself.
